The explosion is not exactly what I wanted but I didn't want to start over since I spent like 30 minutes on that blob. Should have seen the ground before I trashed it, it looked like rocky-road ice-cream with sprinkles.

The uniform is a US WWII 101st Airborne uniform, and the sub-machine gun is a M1A1 Thompson. The location is somewhere in northern Europe, around Normandy, behind German lines, taking out artiliry and securing locations. The patch is the 101st "Screeming Eagles" patch, and the bars on the collar are the insignia for Captain, which were commonly the highest rank you'd see in combat, anything higher ranked did more paperwork than fighting.
Wow, getting to learn the historical accuracy behind this piece definitely gives me a greater appreciation for what's going on! (Now that I have context to associate it with )

I thought of you as I was making the drive from Southern California up to Northern California because along the way there's a Screaming Eagles Highway. It shed some new light on me that I could actually recognize what this meant!
